Epiphany

Its wrong to just try to fix symptoms of problems without even bothering to look at the root cause of things. The root needs to fixed - not right away but comprehension can ease the suffering of fixing all the little things that it has caused.

Incentive

In Freakonomics the author describes how incentives make the world go round (.....apparently there's a movie made on the book that should be out soon)

I personally think a positive incentive feels much better than a negative one. Try telling someone that they've got a good physique - that'll definitely get them back to exercise faster.

Piracy

Every artist I know uses photoshop - but i dont think even one has paid for it(I would use it too if my laptop was a tad faster).... but adobe is losing loads of money because everyone loves free stuff.(Some disagree)

Personally I think the only practical way to stop software piracy is to have server side software (a la world of warcraft)

that's where web based apps could win.... but FOSS will soon change a lot of reasons.

Laws of Deadlines

1st law of deadlines: rate of dong work is inversely proportional to time left for deadline

What it means- High priority things (important and urgent) get done first - always

2nd law of deadlines: (Physical)Distance from work directly proportional to chances of finishing on time.

Corollary- You're more likely to finish something right in front of you


People who make lists basically set daily deadlines (so maybe that's why that works...... most of the time at least....)

Results

This is the week that I feel that I've actually utilized for something..it might have just been the result of the (terrifyingly) fast two weeks I've had before this one..but man! I feel that I've grown this week. 

I've found out things I need to work on - and I've worked on them too.

Things on my list include -

1. Think less - do more

2. Get better at stuff that I care about

3. Being logical = being sarcastic

It all seems logical when I look at it now - but somehow I feel my logic has decieved me all this time

Moral of the story -Never be ashamed to be yourself.

Relief...but till when

I fixed my computer.. again.. I think I like messing it up just so I can fix it. This exercise is weird because it shows me time and again how I can have single minded focus for my objective.

It comes only for computers...till now...

Take Advantage of life

Stuff happens around you all the time, its time you tune in to what you want and take control of where you're heading. Begin with an end in mind and it doesn't matter if no one else but you can visualize it - its just because they lack your perspective.

On a more personal note - I realized a long time ago that people ask me directions all the time ( At least two people a day! ) , its time I take advantage of it. ;)

Oh Disinformation!

It all started with my Dad mentioning that some proteins can be bad for you. After a healthy (just kidding) discussion I started to crawl on the net for it and I was shocked to find out that MSG (aka Ajinomoto ) is not a dangerous substance! and even it causes a temporary sensation of numbness only when injested in large amounts. Now who doesn't know that too much of any thing is bad.

It was a pleasant surprise though to see Heston Blumenthal ( The Kitchen Chemistry guy ) in support of what the world still believes to be a killer. Well people are still eating MSG but they just don't know it now (Hydrolyzed soy protein, autolyzed yeast, and sodium caseinate, to name a few, all serve essentially the same purpose as MSG.)

Saccharin was another surprise, but that's another story.

That just goes to prove that

You cannot believe everything you hear.

Job Hopping

I love my job, and I think about it all the time but even I don't feel that I should carry on with a job for the rest of my life. Its just an unnecessary waste of my time.

Job security is for E quadrant folks.

If you don't change where your direction, you'll end up where you're heading.

Wonderfalls

I haven't seen Wonderfalls in quite some time now and was reminded about it only when I saw the Caroline Dhavernas has a lookalike (from Europe and non related even!). Although I can only confess to have seen only 3 episodes, I loved the concept (not the lame talking animals thing) of witty dialogues filling up a drama about nothing. (Isn't that what popular television is all about)

The philosophical irony in the commentary will definetly catch you off-guard even when you're watching re-runs!

Wikipedia in your Opera

Opera is the fastest browser there is, not only because of its unique caching system but also because it's got a hundred of shortcuts to improve your efficiency.

One of them is the "Hotclick".When a word, on any page is doubleclicked or highlighted, a different menu comes up when its rightclicked. Using this menu can improve your web-experience tremendously.

The trick lies in moderating your standard_menu.ini file. Windows users have this file in their C:/My Programs/Opera/ini folder while Linux users have it in the /usr/share/opera/ini folder.

WARNING:Don't modify this file while Opera is running.

First find where your hotclick popup menu section starts, it'll probably look something like this.
